Frequently asked questions

Why is DR being updated?

This isn't the first time Domain Rating scores have been overhauled. We always want DR to accurately reflect the relative quality of a site's link profile, and felt there were some opportunities to improve the current system.

What's the biggest change?
By popular request, subdomains now have their own rating and no longer take on the rating of the overall domain. For example, microsoft.com has a DR of 94, whereas blogs.microsoft.com has a DR of 87.
Is there anything else you can share?

You can learn more about DR in the Ahrefs help center, this past post from Ahrefs CMO Tim Soulo, and our latest DR4 announcement on the Ahrefs blog.

My score dropped. Did I do anything wrong?

Ahrefs Domain Rating aims to score the strength of your backlink profile compared to others in our database. It's not a measure of the quality of your content, design, value to your audience, or any other similar criteria.

This very website saw its DR decrease (DR74 → DR72).

How can I give feedback?

We've spent weeks testing the new model and sharing feedback with our development team. We also asked some active SEOs for their thoughts. Special thanks to Joe Manna, Carl Hendy, Ian Howells, Rajesh Namase, and Peter Rota (among others) for their thoughts.

I've temporarily opened up a Google Form for feedback, which you can find in this announcement article.
